If you’re not using plastic rings to cushion your home theater speakers then there should be a rubber pad between the surface and the wall to eliminate vibration. Check it’s working properly. If it isn’t seriously consider getting some additional dampeners.

They are easily obtainable and at a cost of pennies. Not too bad if it’s going to improve the sound of the entire system. Do the same check for where the speaker meets speaker cable. If you’re getting excessive vibration then you could consider putting a couple of strips of blu-tack between the speaker and the wall. It’s a nifty little trick that goes a long way to helping eliminate vibrations in the the speaker.

The Correct Positioning For Home Theater in-ceiling Speaker

Well ideally you want home theater speaker that place the tweeter of your speaker aiming at the location where people will be seated. How critical is this? Not tremendously so, obviously ear level is the ideal but if you’re a bit, or even quite a bit out you’re unlikely to notice the difference unless you listen to speakers for a living.

To my mind, far more important is the general aesthetics of the room, but to each his/her own.

Where In The Room To Place The Home Theater Speaker?

Remember, there are no hard and fast rules to in wall & in ceiling speaker installation. There are just too many variables, such as the acoustical properties of the room, the placement of other furniture, size of speakers and so on.

However, there are some pretty good guidelines.

Always see what the owners manual recommends first. All speakers are different and it could be that yours have particular unique characteristics that are noted in the booklet. From a purely acoustical point of view, the speakers need to be placed away from the listeners. This is because otherwise the sound will resonate off the walls thus affecting the quality. Some compromise may be necessary here as near walls is obviously a great place to keep speaker out of the way! Test it out yourself. It maybe merely 6 inches away from the wall makes a huge difference in sound quality. Now, to your right and left speakers. Imagine an equidistant triangle. On one angle, or corner, is the listener, you, and on the other two are the speakers.

Pretty simple In Ceiling Speaker Mounting, no?

Ideally you should be about 8 feet away from each in-ceiling speaker, and each speaker 8 feet from the other. They should, of course, be pointed at you! Of course this depends on the size and shape of your room, the position of other furniture etc, as does each speaker’s exact position. Just do the best you can!

Use Your Time Wisely

If you take the time to position your home theater speaker stands correctly then you can be sure you are using your equipment to its full potential. It would be a shame to spend so much on a home theater system and then not take the hour or so to get it sounding perfect.

Well, with surround sound inceiling speakers, the possibilities are endless. We recommend you let your ears be your guide and experiment with a few different positions, remembering the purpose of these speakers. However, there are a few guidelines to help you.  Essentially, the fundamentals remain the same. Get the left and right speakers placed correctly as indicated above first. That’s the most important thing.

Now the surround sound left and right can then be placed to your left and right, or if you like a couple of feet behind. It’s really up to you. Ideally they should be placed a couple of feet higher than your ears. These speakers are for atmospheric effect and don’t need to be directed at your eardrums. If you have more than two surround sound speakers place some to either side of you and try some behind. That’s the key with surround sound speaker. Try in a few different positions. You could even try angling some away from you and experimenting with different effects.
